Postcards (2020)

Postcards consists of 50 altered postcards of New York City. The frontside of these postcards are painted over with content derived from the original postcard’s image and my anxieties. These painted reactions probe personal political anxieties through their relationship to location and space. A postcard of the Brooklyn Bridge might be painted over to examine concerns about the bridge’s construction and the state of New York City’s infrastructure. The backside of the postcards are then printed with a researched response. The result is a scrutiny of New York City and its inherent problems, and how New York acts as a measure of the United States as a whole. The cards demand an interactive approach, as they must be physically interacted with to observe both sides.
