48/24 (2019)
48/24 was a project conducted in the spring of 2019, culminating in a photo book. Every hour for 48 hours an image was taken of whatever I happened to be doing at the hour change. From these images, silver gelatin prints were made. Many of these photos were overlaid with medical imagery of myself, which were printed from digital negatives. In the book, below each image, is the time the photograph was taken and an accompanying caption taken line from line from my doctor’s surgical report. This project was undertaken as a study of the passing of time in a medical environment. By taking a picture every hour continuously, I was able to mimic the feeling of constant medical interaction. The discomfort of many of the images illustrates the fear and turn into discontent that occurs in a prolonged medical stay. In many ways, this piece was a journey of personal healing.
